In US news and current events today, Representative Ayanna Pressley slams the Trump administration for cutting food stamps for children calling it ‘child abuse.’

Rep. Pressley states how Trump’s decision will be, “Putting more than 3 million individuals, pushing them off of SNAP, including more than 1 million children,” and that, “In Massachusetts, more than 100,000 stand to lose access to benefits, including 72,000 children.”

More than 36 million Americans live at risk of hunger without SNAP, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or food stamps. The Trump admin is adding work requirements to receive food stamps, which will hurt workers with seasonal, part-time, and irregular schedules or work hours.

“Let me be clear: This administration’s attack on SNAP is nothing more than violence waged on the most vulnerable among us. Our children, the elderly, individuals with disabilities, the poor, and the sick,” said Pressley.
